God’s Children ~ Encouraged Be
“the
evil men, who talk of peace to their neighbors while malice is in their hearts
...” Psalm 28:3
The
evil men. The bad guys. Our definition of who they are
and
if they even exist in pure form continues to shift
greatly.
But
one thing is sure;
Persons
who would think of themselves as honest
cannot
have opposite motivations like Peace
& Malice,
if
we will have peace in the world.
On
a personal level
we
cannot have dislike or hard feelings or hatred
or
prejudice toward any person, no matter how unlikeable.
If
we cannot overcome our own private wars,
how
can we ever expect peace on a world scale?

Luke 8:37 “Then all the people of the
surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, for they
were seized with great fear.” The Gerasenes don’t want Jesus. They refuse to
receive Jesus because of what Jesus has cost them. And so they miss out on the
blessings that Jesus would give them.

Leonard
Bernstein, the celebrated orchestra conductor, was asked, what is the hardest
instrument to play. He replied without hesitation: "Second fiddle. I can
always get plenty of first violinists, but to find one who plays second violin
with as much enthusiasm or second French horn or second flute, now that's a
problem. And yet if no one plays second, we have no harmony." Brett Blair

“This
is a cheerful world as I see it from my garden under the shadows of my vines.
But If I were to ascend some high mountain and look over the wide lands, you
know very well what I would see: brigands on the highways, pirates on the sea,
armies fighting, cities burning; in the amphitheaters men murdered to please
the applauding crowds; selfishness and cruelty and misery and despair under all
roofs. It is a bad world, Donatus, an incredibly bad world. But I have
discovered in the midst of it a quiet and holy people who have learned a great
secret. They are despised and persecuted, but they care not. They are masters
of their souls. They have overcome the world. These people, Donatus, are the
Christians--and I am one of them. “ Cyprian,
a 3rd century martyr

Faith is the ability to not panic. Laugh every day, it's like inner
jogging. If you worry, you didn't pray.
If you pray, don't worry.
One night a Cherokee
told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is
between two wolves inside us all.
"One is Evil
- It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow,
regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies,
false pride, superiority, and ego.
”The other is Good –
It is Joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence,
empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.” "
The grandson thought
about it for a minute and then asked his
grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied: “The one you feed.”

Perseverance is not
a long race; it is many short races one after another. —Walter Elliott.
The difference

In 2005, a female humpback whale became
entangled in a web of crab traps and line off the coast of San Francisco.
Hundreds of yards of rope were wrapped
around her body, tail, torso and mouth, weighing her down so much that she struggled
to stay afloat. A fisherman spotted the
whale and radioed for help. When rescuers arrive, they determined that the only
way to save the creature was to dive in and untangle her. This was a dangerous
proposition, as one slap of the tail could be deadly.
Rescuers
worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed the whale. What she
did next surprised the divers: She swam in what seemed like joyous circles,
coming back to each person, one at a time, nudging them gently, in what
rescuers thought was a beautiful gesture of thanks.
May you
and those you love be surrounded by people who help get you untangled from
whatever is binding you and may you always know the joy of giving and receiving
gratitude.
